Who does the government work for? "We the (rich) people." |
Ah yes, the people who are supposed to be there for the citizens: our President and Congress. Speeches are all they need to appease us and keep us sedated. Whenever we raise our ugly heads in protest, they tell us mythological stories about our country and how important we are until we are satisfied that we count and go back to sleep while they get on with real matters concerning the corporatocracy. We used to see-through politicians and say things like, “how do you know when a politician is lying? His lips move.” These days we hang on their every word and believe everything that comes out of their mouth (if they are in “our” party). People fight and argue over whose party is better? “Better?” Give me a break; give me a choice!
We used to question our leaders, now we follow them without question. What changed? Did 9/11 suddenly make politicians honest and trustworthy? The people in the USA began to ask over and over, “why do they hate us?” If a Christian was truly a Christian and had faith in God the way Job had faith in God there would be no need to answer the question “why do they hate us” because the question would never be asked. Have faith, turn the other cheek and praise God. Since that is not what happened and everyone wants to know how anyone could hate our good and perfect country, let’s take a look. (more...)
The Arrogant, the Misguided and the Cowards
By Sean Penn
We the people of the United States have a unique opportunity. We can show each other and the world that what the Bush administration claims is their mission is not ours. And, by leading our country as a citizenry and demanding of our government an immediate end to our own military and profit investments in Iraq, display for the entire world that democracy is a government of the people. What more powerful message to send the world than that we ourselves can choose in policy, in peace, and in humanitarian support. (more...)
